Insurance Reimbursement

As a certified Doula, I can  help you with third party reimbursement from your health care insurance company. Since this is a fairly new thing for the insurance companies, there are still many adjustments happening in the industry in order for them to  provide for these doula services. Each birth and each provider is different, but just remember, there is the potential for reimbursement.  I invite you to check with your provider to see what may be covered.  I will send a  receipt of the payment you made to me, along with all of the qualifying information required by your insurance company, to them for a repayment to you. Many insurance companies are now paying for these services because they know that in the long run they are saving money  by having the doulas assist the mothers in hospital births.

Three pieces of information that you will need to know, is that I am certified as a Doula through Childbirth International. Secondly, I do have a National Provider ID number (NPI#) in order to submit your information to your provider. Thirdly, there are codes that your insurance company will want to know and they are listed below.

The diagnosis code that they will be interested in is:
Diagnosis: V22.2 Intrauterine Pregnancy CPT Code: 99499 – Evaluation and Management Services (Labor Support) The best case I have heard of for birth support was 100% reimbursement of the Doula’s fee for labor services.
For postpartum:
Diagnosis: V24.2 Postpartum Follow Up CPT Code: 59430 – General Postpartum Care  (Which I have not used yet).

I am willing to  write letters to your insurance company, concerning your reimbursement. If they deny the claim, which often happens the first time, I will call them and follow up on any additional information needed. Still there is is no guarantee of payment.

Please note: I do not have a lot of background with dealing with insurance companies in this arena yet, but many other doulas across the nation are having great success. It is a top discussion in the provider's circles and one that I want to bring more into the forefront as we have more clients that are willing  to submit these claims for services. As I have said earlier, it makes sense for them to look at this seriously, as it is proven that a doula assisted birth is much more cost efficient, for the provider, in the long run than one that is primarily a hospital birth alone.   I am willing to do whatever I can for each of you to get reimbursed for your services. Also, please remember that you can be reimbursed for the payments you make to your doula from your Flexible Spending Medical Accounts as well.
