Sharon is the mother of 3, grandmother of 3 “beautiful little ones”, and wife for 40 years. She has always worked with women during pregnancy, labor, birth and provided women’s health for adolescents and those aging gracefully. She grew up in Wichita and raised her family in the area. As the oldest of 5, she says “I tried to spoil my youngest brother”. She recalls being called “mom” by the younger teens in her youth group. “I have learned to be more patient with others through being a mother and a midwife. My mom always said “patience is a virtue”
In 1997 after being a nurse, educator, and manger for several years she was led into midwifery. She states, "I was laid off after a hospital merger and discovered that becoming an advanced practice nurse and midwife was my calling".. In 1999 she graduated from the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing with a certificate in nurse midwifery. She also has a Master of Nursing degree from the University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wichita State University. She is involved in professional activities having served as President of the Kansas Affiliate American College of Nurse-Midwives for 6 years. Sharon had hospital privileges at the Wichita hospitals for 17 years and was employed by an OB/GYN group. She states she is privileged to have assisted in 1280 births during that time, with more than half of those women having natural births. " I love working with families, doulas, and natural birth couples as my philosophy is that it takes a team to support women in labor". The Lord had another plan for Sharon in 2016 when the physician group decided not to support hospital based midwifery. She is thankful to the midwives at WBA who added her to their practice. " I love providing midwifery services to women having a home birth. Birth is a blessed, beautiful, life changing event to be honored in any setting. " |
