Why Take a Childbirth Class?

Although some people opt out of childbirth classes due to their busy schedules, the midwives and doulas at WBA know how instrumental classes are in preparing a couple to have the best birth possible. Classes are vitally important for moms and dads to attend, especially prior to their first birth. Women have a tendency to feel more satisfied when they are able to participate in their care. They feel more capable to do that when they are informed about their bodies and what they should expect in pregnancy and childbirth.

In today's world it's common for parents to build their knowledge base of pregnancy and childbirth from the internet or from television programs. While it is great to do research at home about the many options women have available to them regarding pregnancy and childbirth, an interactive childbirth course, with "hands-on" opportunities is invaluable.  These classes give the parents opportunities to practice relaxation, breathing, and comfort measures, as well ask the many questions that are vital to a successful, natural childbirth. When parents are informed and prepared, whether they birth at home or the hospital, they are more equipped to be successful at their natural birth.

A common complaint among women who have had babies in the hospital is that due to the financial constraints of the hospital, doctors and nurses have less time to educate them at the bedside . (Although this is never a good place to become educated anyway). Parents are often left feeling frustrated, uneducated, unable to ask the important questions regarding procedures and care, and less likely to make wise decisions. . WBA midwives all agree that there are many resources available for childbirth education, all of which are vital and should be accessed, but none of which can take the place of a live instructor with a detailed curriculum.
