Our Goals
Wichita Birth Assistance was founded in 2010 by Cynthia Barger, as a training and resource organization for moms, doulas, and midwives.
Our goals are:
-to be informational and facilitate you in finding the right birth help that is suitable for you.
-to make available the most qualified, experienced, and dedicated women to assist you with your birth.
-to work with respect and integrity in our community, whether we are assisting at the hospital, at a birth center, or at home.
When a doula has been hired, she meets with the mother and her support people once or twice prenatally, accompanies them through active labor and birth, and provides one follow-up postpartum visit. The postpartum visit is sometimes over the phone, especially for women who live a distance outside of Wichita. The doula works with a variety of women, those birthing in the hospital, as well as those planning a home birth or birthing center with a midwife. Our goals are not to replace the father or support person, but to encourage them to participate in a way that is meaningful for the mother and them. The support a doula gives is strictly non-medical; the priority being the emotional and physical comfort of the mother.
Wichita Birth Assistance primarily serves in the Wichita, Kansas and outlying areas.
